Paris Olympic Games: The Brazilian pair beat the Canadians in women’s volleyball.

Ana Patrícia and Duda won the gold medal in women’s beach volleyball at the Games Paris Olympics. The Brazilian pair overcame the Canadians Melissa and Brandie by 2 sets to 1, this Friday (August 9). The partials were 26/24, 12/21 and 15/10.

The Brazilian victory ended Brazil’s eight-year drought without gold medals at the Olympics. The last time the country climbed to the top of the podium was in the Rio 2016 edition. Bruno Schmidt and Alison Cerutti became Olympic champions in Copacabana.

This was Brazil’s third gold medal in Paris 2024. The country also has six silver and nine bronze, totaling 18. This Saturday (10), the women’s soccer team will compete for gold with the United States. The silver medal is already guaranteed in case of defeat.

Ana Patrícia was born in the city of Espinosa, located in the North of Minas. The municipality, with 30 thousand inhabitants, installed a screen so that residents could follow the Olympic decision.

Ana, who went through the Betim Viva o Esporte program, and her partner Duda are athletes from Praia Clube, a team from Uberlândia, in the Triângulo Mineiro.

Rivalry against the Canadians
The Brazilian pair had overcome the Canadian in the final of the Pan American Games, held in Santiago, Chile, in 2023. Ana Patrícia and Duda won the match by 2 sets to 0 and took the gold medal.

Leaders of the world ranking, Ana Patrícia and Duda reached the decision after overcoming the duo Mariafe and Clancy, from Australia, in the semifinals. In the quarterfinals, the Brazilians beat Tina and Anastasija, from Latvia.

The Brazilians also overcame the Japanese Akiko and Ishii, in the round of 16. During the qualifying phase, Ana Patrícia and Duda won all their matches, without losing a set.
