Copa America: Brazil loses to Uruguay and is out of the Competition.

Brazil eliminated by the Uruguayan team in the 2024 Copa América.

After a 0-0 draw in regular time, Brazil lost to Uruguay on penalties by a score of 4-2, in a match played on Saturday night (06/07) in Las Vegas (USA). The result left the team under coach Dorival Júnior out of the Copa América. Uruguay will face Colombia in the semifinals, which will also feature a duel between Argentina and Canada.

In a game with a poor technical level and very truncated in normal time, the classic was held at Allegiant Stadium, and the goalless score did justice to the poor football of both teams. There were many fouls and few shots on goal – 3 from the Brazilian team and 1 from the Uruguayan team, which had a player sent off in the second half.

Despite Brazil’s failure in the competition, the team remains undefeated since Dorival Júnior took over as coach. They have three wins and five draws in normal time.

In the penalty shootout, Ugarte missed a penalty for the Uruguayans. Brazil also lost, with Militão and Douglas Luiz.

Check the sequence of charges:

For Uruguay : Valverde, Bentancur, Arrascaeta and Ugarte scored; Alisson saved Giménez’s shot.

For Brazil : Andreas Pereira and Martinelli scored; Rochet saved Militão’s shot; and Douglas Luiz hit the post.

In the semi-final, Uruguay will face Colombia, which crushed Panama 5-0 this Saturday. The duel will be on Wednesday (10) at Bank Of America Stadium, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The other semi-final, between Argentina and Canada, will take place on Tuesday (9) at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey. Finally, the grand final of the Copa América will be on Sunday (14/7) in Miami. All games are scheduled for 9 pm (Brazil time).

Uruguay’s Copa America record

Argentina and Uruguay were the teams that won the most titles, totaling 15 each. Brazil is in third place in the ranking, with 9 titles, while Colombia won one. Canada, a debutant in the Copa América, made history by reaching the semifinals in its first participation.

International media reports on the elimination of the Brazilian team: “One of Brazil’s worst moments”

Brazil’s elimination from the Copa América had repercussions in the international media. After the team’s defeat on penalties to Uruguay in the quarterfinals, some important newspapers around the world commented on and mocked Brazil’s downfall.

The Argentine newspaper “Olé” pointed out the current moment of the Brazilian team “as one of the worst in history” and mocked Ronaldinho Gaúcho’s speech before the start of the Copa América, who in an advertising piece had said that he would not watch Brazil in the competition.

In a column in the newspaper “Marca”, there is a question about the possible impacts of Brazil’s early elimination in the Ballon d’Or award, for which the Spanish newspaper pointed to Vini Jr as the main favorite.

— Is Vinicius’ Ballon d’Or in danger? Suspended, he had to watch his team’s defeat from the stands in the quarter-finals, a long way from the title that would have guaranteed him the award almost automatically. With Bellingham still alive in the Euros… perhaps the debate will be reopened — wrote Ruben Jimenez, from Marca.

Uruguayan newspaper “Ovación” called the decision to decide who will be in the semifinals “heart-wrenching.” With the qualification, Uruguay will face Colombia on Wednesday at 9 p.m. The other semifinal will be between Argentina and Canada.

Uruguayan team provokes Brazil after elimination in Copa América: “Risk is optimism”

After Uruguay’s victory on penalties and the elimination of the Brazilian team in the quarterfinals of the Copa América, the Uruguayan team provoked Brazil in reference to the phrases said by the Brazilian players before the match.

Hours before the match against Brazil in the quarterfinals of the Copa América, the Uruguayan national team published a motivational video on Saturday with quotes from Andreas Pereira and Wendell. In recent days, the national team’s players have made statements comparing the two teams.

After the Brazilians’ phrases, Uruguay’s video showed a sequence of images of goals scored by the Celeste team, with emphasis on the 1950 World Cup final. At the end of the motivational piece, Ghiggia, who scored the goal that gave Uruguay the title 74 years ago, appears.

– Our midfield is very good, all the players play in the Premier League. They are qualified. If we take each name by name, we have a team that they would dream of having in Uruguay – Andreas said in a press conference on Thursday.

– We are the most successful team in the world and we are prepared to face Uruguay or any other opponent. We expect Uruguay to be a very strong opponent, but they will also see the strength of Brazilian football – said Wendell in the mixed zone right after the draw with Colombia on Tuesday.

All semi-finals of the competition have been defined. See below the matches, dates and times:

Argentina vs Canada – Tuesday, 9pm.
Uruguay vs Colombia – Wednesday, 9pm.

The competition final will be next Sunday, the 14th, at 9pm (Brasília time), at Hard Rock Stadium, in Florida.
