In the match, Xhaka opened the scoring with a long-range kick, before the Hessian Eagles equalized through  Hugo Ekitike , who scored for the third consecutive Bundesliga game. Just before the break, Schick put Leverkusen ahead again and the world cup winner with Argentina, Palacios, scored the third from the penalty spot in the 58th minute.

The floodgates opened in the closing stages, with Frimpong scoring just five minutes after entering the field, and then winning a penalty with three minutes left, which Boniface converted, securing the North Rhine-Westphalia team’s first victory in Frankfurt in six years. .
